I became interested in Chinese Medicine after receiving my own significant results with Acupuncture treatment. I had sustained injuries from an automobile accident in 1983 that left me with chronic neck and lower back pain with leg pain (sciatica). I had been using Chiropractic manipulation and massage for my pain with only temporary relief at best. While studying Biochemistry at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, I took a course on integrative medicine and was introduced to Acupuncture. I received my first treatments and pain relief in years and decided to pursue an education and career in Chinese Medicine.

I graduated Cum Laude from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 1992 with the Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine degree. I was licensed by the Medical Board of California in 1993 and joined the Memorial Prompt Care Medical Group in March 1997. I received a Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree from South Baylo University, Anaheim CA in 2006.

I have been a founding Board of Directors member of several professional organizations:

"My name is Jeff and I’m an Insomniac. Have been for 17 years. I have been through the whole gambit of prescription and over the counter drugs. Several drugs worked for many years. Such as Valium, Benadryl, Elavil. After long term use these either stopped working or caused physical problems. Finally got to the point where nothing worked. So went back to the over the counter stuff. Things got crazy needed to use 2 different drugs to sleep and, had 3 in my arsenal. Did this for several years and I was in trouble again. "After several months (and doctors) I still had an ache and sometimes sharp pain down my inner thigh. One of my co-workers asked if I had ever thought of trying acupuncture. At that point I hadn’t but was willing to give it a try. A teacher recommended Dr. Birkhimer and I made an appointment the next day.

Cynthia took my history and was so sweet and calming. After the needles were placed, soft relaxing music was played in the darkened room. After 30 or so minutes she came in, removed the needles, massaged the areas where the needles were placed and that was that.
